Poems

PRESENT PERSPECTIVES  (Written for Women of Infinite Worth 1990)
A small voice whispers, what have you done?                                                                         Remember this life is no trial run!                                                                                                          Try to focus on why we are here,                                                                                                         To draw Christ, our Savior, daily near.

But busy busy busy - free                                                                                                           Always gaining humility,                                                                                                                  Run run run, stumbling - stop to walk                                                                                              Get a moment of meaningful talk.

Enthusiasm, energy, frustration, pain;                                                                                      Another day and do it over again.                                                                                            Grasping for that elusive inner peace                                                                                                 When the somatics of living never cease.

Laugh a lot…cry a little
Try to balance somewhere in the middle.                                                                                        Cook, clean, callings, comfort the sick
If given a choice any difference pick?

Read a story, cause a grin,                                                                                                             Tuck one sleeping child in;                                                                                                         Family with food, love and prayer, nurture and feed,                                                                      But what will they savor and eternal heed?

Now I remember why I am here,                                                                                                        To practice charity on His children so dear.                                                                                    And a small voice still whispers, what have I done?                                                                             For this short sweet life is no trial run.

HUNGER (Written for RS Conference themed "Spiritual Feasting" 1998)

"I'm hungry," a child's continuous plea
So I feed them with morsels the eye can see
The stomach is full, physical contentment reigns
But am I satisfying deeper hunger pains?

What of the hunger mere food cannot fill
A worldwide hunger to the soul that's real
Children are starving, there's a famine in the land
Please let me help heaven, I want to be Your hands...

Teach for the emptiness where they must turn
To be filled by the Spirit is the nourishment they yearn
That the "Bread of Life" is more than mortal meat
And when fed by our Brother we eternally eat.

Many will merely snack when a full table is spread
Why try to force feed, when love satiates instead
Latter-day, choice children whose potential I adore
Come to Christ's foodless feast and hunger no more.

(I wrote poems for gifts often, these two were for grandparents Christmas 1998.)

Grandma June

Sisters in heaven before we came here
Now on earth our spirits draw near
Gospel truths shared, our eternal link
Your stories caused me to spiritually think.

Grandmother, matriarch, sister, friend
My love and admiration has no end
You hold me here with heavenly hands
In each's arms when we break earthly bands!

Grandpa Art

Gentleman, fisherman, funny man, friend
Grandfathering my family through the end
Meaningful memories from years gone past
Creating a bond that will eternally last.

Positive, patient, humorous, smart
Sharing yourself and touching my heart
Through your example my life has been blessed
May my love add light on your earthly quest.
